Starting Tuesday September 15th, for an interim period, our bus service 701 will be operated by Panther Travel on our behalf, normally with one of their white and blue liveried buses. There are no changes to the times, route or fares and our tickets continue to be valid on the bus.
Bus 38 is being extended from Witham on to Braintree and this will mean new times for the off-peak buses in Witham to and from Allectus Way. But don\'t worry, buses will still run every 30 minutes. The new times can be viewed HERE.
For times of the service right through to Braintree, please see our separate Braintree news item.
Buses 9 and 10 coming from Great Notley towards Braintree will be diverted to run direct from London Road to the Bus Park and will NOT serve the stops in Rayne Road and Coggeshall Road.
This is a temporary measure whilst work is carried out on the traffic lights at the London Road / Pierrefitte Way / High St junction, which we expect to cause delays to buses.
The diversion will only last whilst the roadworks are in place, for about 6 weeks.
Buses towards Great Notley are NOT affected but might be delayed slightly.
Large operator drops local service, Stephensons save the day!
From the start of the autumn term, on bus cash fares to most schools that we serve in Essex will be increasing, generally by 10p (single) or 20p (return). To get the best value, why not buy a term ticket, which offers a discount over paying daily. To see prices for your specific journey, go to the ticketing section of our website HERE.
If you are paying daily, please help to keep the bus on time by having the correct money ready, if possible. The driver can only carry a limited amount of change. Thanks!
[Different fares increases apply to buses 417/418/419 and the new Maldon-Heybridge-Hatfield Peverel to Chelmsford 673].
From the start of the new school term, the day and weekly fares on buses 14/15 (and variations of those routes) will be increased to:
Student day return £6.20
Student weekly ticket £28.50.
Please help the driver by having the right money ready if possible.
Our Dengie shopper bus routes do NOT run during the summer school holidays.
The last days each will run before summer are Thursday July 16 and Friday July 17.
Services then restart on Thursday September 3, 2015.
Happy Summer from all your drivers!
Stephensons of Essex, the Rochford-based local bus company, are stepping in to replace a vital shoppers’ bus being axed by Arriva. The existing Arriva service 6A bus from Belfairs to Leigh will stop running after August 6th. Stephensons’ new bus will start on Friday August 21st and will run every Tuesday and Friday, with four trips each way.
Stephensons’ MD Bill Hiron explained “When we heard that Arriva were dropping the 6A, we decided to step in and see if we could make the route more successful, as we have done with our bus 17 between Southend, Chalkwell and Leigh. Although we won’t run as many times a day as Arriva used to, our bus will still give plenty of opportunities to get to Leigh for shopping, to visit the Library or the Old Town. To answer regular calls for a better service from The Fairway and Belgrave Road areas, the bus will also serve those roads as well as the full route that Arriva used to. And in a nod to local history, we’re reintroducing the number 23 for the bus route, as a reminder of the days when it was run by Southend Corporation and Eastern National”.
He continued “We are sorry that there will be a short gap between Arriva finishing and the start of our route but this is due to bus industry regulations meaning we have to give 56 days’ notice”.
Timetables are on-line now and leaflets will be available from Leigh Town Council offices and local libraries and the enquiry office in Southend Travel Centre in about a week’s time. Concession travel passes will be accepted for free travel on all trips on new bus 23.
From Wednesday August 12th, Stephensons will take over operation of the Wednesday only bus from Paglesham, Canewdon and Lower Hockley to Rayleigh, on behalf of Essex County Council. There are no changes to the route but the buses will run about 30 minutes earlier than the current service run by Arriva. For new times, please see here.
English National Travel Concession Passes will continue to be accepted on all journeys on bus 10 but there will be some changes to cash fares.
We would like to clarify that the ban on smoking on all of our buses also includes e-cigarettes.
Full details of our terms and conditions are available here.
