**Stephensons of Essex is celebrating having been crowned Top Independent Operator at the UK Bus Awards 2017 held in London today.
The company took gold, fighting off competition from across the country. They also won bronze in the Bus Operator of the Year category which recognises the ‘best in show’ from winners across the board.
The Top Independent Operator award recognises bus companies that provide an outstanding service and is truly committed to their customers and employees.
Stephensons is the largest independent bus operator in Essex and has a significant presence in Suffolk too. The company\'s successful philosophy is to operate small depots with small teams of friendly drivers, delivering reliable services. They believe in minimal layers of bureaucracy, coupled with an ability to respond swiftly to opportunities where they arise.
The company also invest heavily in vehicles, route branding, their employees, technology and communication.
Mark Yexley, Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: “The judges were very impressed with Stephensons of Essex, they thought they set a really good example of an operator that gets the basics right and provides a good service for its customers.
“We would like to congratulate Stephensons of Essex on their achievement. Well done from everyone at the UK Bus Awards.”

14/15 - Bury St Edmunds: Please be aware that due to the roadworks that are currently being carried out at the Spread Eagle, we are experiencing severe delays on our route 14/15 services. The company has made the decision to divert these services in order to improve our reliability. Therefore from Monday 13th November 2017, until the completion of the roadworks, we will NOT be serving the Spread Eagle or The Arc Shopping Centre both coming into Bury St Edmunds & departing Bury St Edmunds. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.
Service 16A will have minor revisions commencing 06 November 2017 to improve reliability on the peak runs that serve Mildenhall college. The new timetable can be found using the dropdown in the BusTracker
The annual Witham Puppet Festival will be held on the 16th September.
As per usual, this will involve the closure short section of Newland Street between Collingwood Road and Maldon Road.
Buses heading towards Maldon and Allectus Way will leave Collingwood Road and then left turn left at the traffic lights, onto Newland Street in the opposite direction to usual, right onto The Grove, right onto Maldon Road and then left back onto Newland Street to pick up our usual line of route.
Return will be reverse of above.
Sorry, buses are not permitted to stop between Collingwood Road and the regular stops on Newland Street.
This diversion will cause some degree of disruption to the timetable, possibly between five and ten minutes.
You may wish to take this into account if you have a connecting journey to make.
