Stephensons of Essex is an established local company which can trace its origins back to the mid 1970’s, when operations started with a single Bedford coach. We now operate a fleet of over 100 buses and coaches throughout south, mid Essex and west Suffolk, from our headquarters at Rochford, near Southend-on-Sea, and depots at Maldon, Boreham, Braintree and Haverhill.
We have grown rapidly in recent years, but our philosophy remains the same – to provide high quality, safe, reliable and friendly, value for money bus and coach travel. In 2015 our buses and coaches covered 3.9 million kilometres and carried 2.6 million passengers, consuming nearly 1.8 million litres of diesel fuel.
Still privately owned, and now the largest independent operators in Essex, we can provide a level of personal service which is impossible for the big groups. Being locally owned and managed, we can respond quickly and flexibly to changes in demand on our services, whilst maintaining competitive prices.
In the last three years we have invested £3m in updating our fleet with state of the art, buggy and wheelchair-friendly buses with ‘green’ low emission engines, and our investment programme continues. Nearly all our fleet is fitted with CCTV for passenger safety and security.
We provide a wide range of bus services and work in partnership with local authorities to provide many services which would not otherwise run, particularly in rural areas.
We can also offer buses and coaches for hire. For the bus and coach industry, we provide a vehicle dealership. Our stock usually includes a number of double deckers, and often single deck buses, coaches and minibuses.
